The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit stands as the final chapter of the Formula One season. The event has become known for its dramatic championship deciders, unique atmosphere and a track layout that challenges drivers in a very specific way. As the field prepares for the finale, the focus turns not only to the characteristics of the circuit but also to the form of the leading drivers and the stakes that accompany the last race of the year. All eyes will be on the battle at the front as the title remains within reach for Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.

The Yas Marina Circuit and Its Demands

Yas Marina is a circuit that offers a mix of high speed and technical sections. The reprofiled layout introduced several years ago has improved racing by removing some of the slower chicanes and opening up opportunities for more dynamic overtaking. Drivers begin the lap with a fast run through the opening bends before tackling a sequence of corners that reward precision and strong rear stability. The long back straight that follows allows for slipstreaming and late braking attempts which often become key moments for overtakes during the race.

The flow of the circuit places particular emphasis on traction out of low speed corners and the ability to maintain consistent tyre temperatures across longer stints. Front locking has historically been a concern, especially under the heavy braking zones that lead into the two longest straights. The final sector, which winds through the marina and past the hotel, is tight and unforgiving. Any mistake there can cost more than a tenth of a second and in a qualifying session that is often very close, that margin can mean several grid positions.

Current Driver Form

Lando Norris

Norris leads the championship with 408 points and carries a twelve point advantage over Verstappen into the finale. His recent form has been exceptional, with strong qualifying sessions and consistently competitive race pace giving him the edge when it mattered most. McLaren has provided him with a reliable and fast package, and Norris has taken full advantage by delivering performances that have kept him at the front of the title fight. To secure the championship, Norris must either win or finish high enough to prevent Verstappen or Piastri from outscoring him. His form suggests he has every reason to feel confident heading into the final round.

Max Verstappen

Verstappen enters the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with 396 points and sits second in the standings after losing the championship lead in recent rounds. His victory in Qatar restored some much needed momentum and reminded the field of his ability to perform under pressure. Although he does not hold the points advantage, he remains close enough to Norris that beating Norris by 12 points in Abu Dhabi would hand him the title. Verstappen’s form has improved late in the season, and his race pace at several recent circuits has put him firmly back into contention. His task is clear. He must finish ahead of both McLaren drivers or hope that Norris fails to reach the finishing positions required to stay on top.

Oscar Piastri

Piastri sits third in the standings with 392 points and remains mathematically in the fight after a season filled with flashes of brilliance and strong results. His qualifying performances have been among the best on the grid, and he has repeatedly shown the ability to race wheel to wheel with both Norris and Verstappen. However, the points gap means he needs a top result in Abu Dhabi combined with misfortune for the two drivers ahead of him. If he produces one of his strongest drives of the year and capitalises on any mistakes from Norris or Verstappen, Piastri could still overturn the deficit. His form and raw speed ensure that he remains a genuine threat in the championship decider.

An Early Prediction for the Race

Based on recent form and track characteristics, Verstappen enters the weekend as the favourite. His pace on circuits that reward strong traction and confident braking puts him in a strong position. However, McLaren appear close enough to challenge him. Norris could be the main threat if he delivers a clean qualifying run and positions himself on the front row. Piastri may also be capable of a surprise if he adapts quickly to the demands of the circuit.

The final race of the season often brings tension, unpredictability and moments that define careers. The 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix promises to deliver all of that once again. The outcome will depend on execution under pressure, tyre management and the ability to remain composed when everything is on the line.
