Oliver Bearman secures career best P4 finish in F1 Mexico GP

When rookies arrive in Formula 1 with more hype than experience, the industry tends to monitor their every move. But with his performance at the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, Oliver Bearman not only met expectations — he exceeded them in emphatic style. Finishing a remarkable fourth, Bearman achieved his best-ever result in F1 and delivered a statement drive for both himself and his team Haas F1 Team.

From Ninth to Fourth: The Race of His Life

Starting from 9th on the grid, Bearman had already showcased his speed and potential earlier in the weekend. But the real story unfolded on Sunday. Early in the race he found himself elevated to third place after major drama involving senior rivals. According to Reuters:

Hamilton and Max had a bit of a coming together at the start and I benefited from that.”

This unexpected opportunity placed Bearman under immense pressure — but he rose to the occasion. He later admitted:

“Honestly, I was sh***ing myself going side-by-side with Max … but it’s really cool to go wheel-to-wheel with these people that I’ve been watching since I started watching F1.”

Handling the pressure, managing tyres and navigating the high-altitude, high-drag challenges of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, he held third for a substantial chunk of the race before eventually being passed by Verstappen when he pitted for his second stop but still crossing the line in P4 (+40.955s behind the winner).

What Made the Difference

Several factors converged to give Bearman his standout result:

  • Low mistakes, high composure: Unlike earlier in the season, when his results were hampered by errors and penalties, this weekend saw Bearman stay clean. Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur acknowledged:

“He put everything together. He made zero mistakes and he’s paying off.”

  • Strategic maturity: Bearman and Haas made a critical strategic decision late in the race:

“I got the call to box very late … I think we did the right job. Fourth is great as well.”

They chose to secure P4 rather than risk everything chasing P3 — a sign of maturity beyond his years.

  • Against the elite: Battling wheel-to-wheel with the likes of Max Verstappen, one of the era’s greatest, and surviving the alt-drag challenges of Mexico, Bearman proved he can match the highest level when the opportunity arises.

Why This Matters — For Him and for Haas

For Bearman personally, the result is a career milestone — a career-best finish in just his second full F1 season, and a clear signal to the paddock that he’s more than a prospect. He said after the race:

“So when it came out (the VSC), I wasn’t actually happy. I was sad … I had a lot of battery to use and I was about to deploy it all … but fourth is still – we finished two cars in the points, that’s awesome.”

For Haas, the result strengthens their position in the Constructors’ Championship, moving them into eighth place with four races remaining. More importantly, it reflects the team’s progress and the value of their investment in Bearman. As Vasseur noted:

“I was thinking about a podium for him … but if you look from the beginning of the season, he’s doing well.”

What’s Next for Bearman

This result changes the narrative. Bearman goes into the final phase of the season not just as a rookie scoring points, but as a driver capable of delivering near-podium results. Key areas to watch:

  • Can he translate this momentum into consistent top-five finishes?

  • Will he avoid the minor mistakes that have cost him earlier in his season (he admitted multiple “silly errors” previously).

  • How will Haas support him and build around this result to challenge for even higher finishes next year?

Final Thoughts

Oliver Bearman’s fourth-place finish at the 2025 Mexico City GP was more than a personal best — it was a breakthrough. From the ninth row to the upper echelons of the finish order, he showed speed, composure and strategic sense.

In his own words:

“It was probably the most pressure I’ve ever had in a race scenario.”

That pressure might just be the fuel that propels him to the next level. And as Haas continue their upward trajectory, Bearman could well become one of the most exciting talents to watch in the seasons ahead.
